A systematic collection of electronic health data on specific patients or populations is what is known as an electronic health record (EHR), a concept that is still in development. It is a digital document that, in theory, may be exchanged between various healthcare facilities. In other circumstances, this sharing can take place through other information networks or exchanges, network-connected enterprise-wide information systems, or both.
