The Island Peak Climbing Package is designed specifically for novice and experienced climbers who want to combine trekking and mountaineering into one trip. Inexperienced climbers who want to start their mountaineering career by summiting Island Peak and then continue to other peaks frequently choose Island Peak climbing. Since it resembles an island in a sea of ice when seen from Dingboche, the peak was given the name Island Peak by Eric Shipton's group in 1951. Imja Tse was the new name given to the summit in 1983, however, Island Peak is still the most often used.
