How can I avoid common IELTS mistakes?
Mistakes to avoid in IELTS Reading: –
Poor time management: time allotted to IELTS reading test is 61 minutes for both academic and general test takers. In the allotted 60 minutes of tine you are require to solve 5 passages and 3 long passages for general and academic respectively. You will also have to transfer the answers onto the answer sheet in the given time limit only. Hence it is important that you allot time for each section reasonably. Do not waste time on a single question. Guess the answer and move on and you can later come back to the questions those you were unsure about.
Not reading the instructions carefully: it is very essential that you read all the instructions before the question set carefully. For example, the word limit for fill ion the blanks or true/false/not given AND yes/no/not given.
Keyword / synonyms / paraphrasing: one of the important strategies is to understand the key words and underline them. Alongside, highlighting the important names, years, names of the scientists and so on, this can be of great help to solve further questions. Furthermore, do nit waste time to find the exact word from the question in the passage, you may not get it, instead try to match the meaning as most of the keywords from the question are the synonyms of the words used in the passage.
Making grammatical errors: Grammatical errors also taken into consideration in IELTS reading test. You should be particularly careful about countable and uncountable nouns and singular plural nouns.
Leaving blanks unanswered: Do not leave answers blank as there if no negative marking of your response is wrong.
