Corduroy fabric is a durable fabric with a convex pile texture throughout. It is first woven in a plain weave, then the pile ends are woven into the base fabric and cut into cords. Corduroy fabrics can be made from a variety of fibers or blends, such as cotton, wool and polyester. Corduroy fabric has a soft raised texture and visible ribbing called Welsh, and is a thick, medium weight fabric with a full, stiff drape when hung.
